The Valencian Community is taking a giant step in digital defense and technological innovation with the creation of a cybersecurity laboratory specialized in the aerospace sector. This ambitious project, the result of the agreement between the Generalitat Valenciana and the company S2 Grupo, will involve an estimated investment of between 10 and 15 million euros and will promote the region as a European hub for industrial cybersecurity.

A Strategic Agreement for Digital Resilience

The president of the Government of Catalonia, Carlos Mazón, recently signed the agreement of intent with José Rosell, CEO of S2 Grupo, at the company's own facilities in Valencia. The project, under the name of 'Cicerón', will not only strengthen the security of the aerospace industry, but will also benefit companies, research centers, universities and society as a whole.

This new laboratory will make it possible to design, test and simulate defenses against cyberattacks that may affect the entire aerospace value chain — from the design and manufacture of satellites to the launch, operation and management of critical infrastructures. In addition, it stands out for its focus on public-private collaboration and the promotion of digital talent and R+D+i.

Economic Impact, Innovation and International Leadership

According to data presented by the Government of Catalonia, this commitment is part of a global strategy to position Valencia as a reference in digital innovation and to attract strategic projects and quality employment to the region. In the last two years alone, investments in innovation and digitalization have generated nearly 21,600 new jobs and mobilized more than 18 billion euros in the Valencian Community.

The physical laboratory will initially be located at the headquarters of S2 Grupo, but expansions are planned to provide the necessary infrastructure to simulate complete manufacturing and deployment processes, thus consolidating industrial digital sovereignty in Spain and Europe.

Why industrial cybersecurity is a strategic priority

The rise of cyberattacks aimed at critical infrastructures and strategic sectors such as aerospace highlights the importance of this type of initiative. Digital security must be transversal in all public and business policies, and become a lever for competitiveness, job creation and talent generation.

The Valencia laboratory will serve as an example for other regions and sectors that need to reinforce their defensive capabilities in the face of an increasingly hostile and uncertain global environment.
