On October 20, a significant interruption in Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically in its US-EAST-1 region, caused dozens of digital services to remain inaccessible for hours. From apps like Snapchat and Venmo to corporate platforms, the decline once again highlighted the level of dependence that many companies have on centralized cloud infrastructure.

What exactly happened?

AWS reported that the outage was caused by an internal failure in its load balancing and DNS resolution system. Although It wasn't a cyberattack, the impact was global. For many organizations, the pause meant a loss of service, visibility and control.

And Apolo Cybersecurity? We were not affected.

Thanks to our strategic decisions, Apolo Cybersecurity services were never compromised. Our servers are hosted in the region of Frankfurt (EU-Central-1), which allowed us to maintain full operation and continuity of service throughout the incident.

Three key lessons that we reinforce:

  1. Resilience starts with architecture
It's not just about having backups or firewalls. Real resilience requires a distributed infrastructure, a well-designed redundancy strategy, and ongoing monitoring.
  2. Independence reduces risks
Delegating the entire technological operation to a single cloud provider can be convenient, but it can also be risky. At Apollo, we opted for an architecture that gives us greater control and autonomy.
  3. Cybersecurity is also business continuity
Although this interruption was not caused by a malicious actor, the effects were similar to those of a cyberattack: loss of services, loss of revenue and reputational damage. That's why at Apolo we don't treat cybersecurity as an isolated area, but as an essential part of business strategy.

Apolo: Beyond SIEM, Beyond XDR

Our platform unifies SIEM, SOAR, Threat Intelligence and DFIR in a single, adaptable, automated solution designed to prevent, detect and respond to threats — but also to ensure operational continuity even in adverse environments.

Because true cybersecurity not only focuses on external threats, but also on anticipating and resisting systemic failures like the one we saw this week.
