We live in a hyperconnected world, where the mobile phone has become our wallet, the computer our office and the cloud our family archive. This technological advance has brought us comfort and new opportunities, but it has also opened the door to an invisible risk: cyberattacks. What used to seem like an exclusive problem for governments or large multinationals, today threatens any SME, self-employed or citizen.
Cybercriminals have evolved. They are no longer teenagers in front of a computer, but international networks that act like mafias, using fake emails, manipulated SMS or viruses that encrypt files in exchange for ransom. However, most incidents don't usually stem from complex failures, but rather from human oversights such as weak passwords, hasty clicks, or unupdated equipment.
To prevent these attacks, at Apollo Cybersecurity we propose to follow the method APOLLO, six key steps that any organization can implement to improve its cybersecurity:
90% of cyberattacks start with fraudulent email. That's why healthy distrust is the best defense: don't open suspicious attachments or click on suspicious links. Each user must become their own firewall.
Keeping systems up to date, with antivirus and protection on connected routers or cameras, closes doors to attackers. In professional environments, a firewall and continuous monitoring considerably reduce risk. In addition, passwords must be long, unique and protected with managers and two-step verification.
Ransomware blocks and encrypts data, demanding ransom. Having up-to-date backups, stored in secure environments and disconnected from the network, makes the difference between a disaster and a setback.
Not everyone requires access to all information. Applying the principle of least privilege reduces the impact of any incident.
Cybersecurity is also a cultural and organizational issue. Ongoing training and having a SOC (Security Operations Center) that monitors 24/7 allows for quick and effective responses.
Digital security is summarized in simple routines, similar to closing the door when leaving home. With Attention, Protection, Passwords, Order, Limitation and Organization, we can build an effective digital vaccine against today's threats.
At Apolo Cybersecurity, as CEO, I affirm that only with conscious and constant prevention can we protect citizens, SMEs and large companies against the digital challenges of the present and the future.
