Prime Day becomes a priority objective for cybercriminals

El Amazon Prime Day 2025, one of the most important online shopping events of the year, is being used by cybercriminals to launch massive phishing and digital fraud campaigns. According to Check Point Research, more than have been detected 1,230 new Amazon-related domains over the past few weeks, and 87% are classified as malicious or suspicious.

Alarming numbers of fake domains

Among the most worrying data:

  • 87% of new domains are malicious or suspicious.
  • They have been detected more than 120,000 fake sites in total, including malware, phishing and the sale of counterfeit products.

Main tactics used by attackers

Cybercriminals use different methods to trick users:

  • Theft of Amazon credentials and bank cards
  • Fake domains with misspellings (e.g. amazom.com) or unusual endings (.top, .online) that mimic the official URL.
  • Urgent phishing emails, with issues such as “Refund Error - Amazon System Error” or “Account Problems” to force clicks on malicious links.
  • Fake Prime Day deals published on social networks and advertisements that redirect to fraudulent websites.

Risks for users

  • Theft of Amazon credentials and bank cards
  • Infection of devices with malware or spyware.
  • Loss of money due to purchases in fake stores
  • Impersonation for new frauds

How to protect yourself during Amazon Prime Day 2025

Key Recommendations

  1. Check the URL: always access by typing amazon.com directly in your browser.
  2. Don't click on links in suspicious emails or unverified senders.
  3. Activate two-step authentication (2FA) in your Amazon account and other services.
  4. Review the HTTPS certificate and check if the website has real design, texts and conditions.
  5. Use virtual cards or secure payment methods to reduce the risk if your data is stolen.
  6. Stay alert to overly attractive offers or messages with excessive urgency.

Prime Day isn't the only vulnerable event

Other events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday they also record similar peaks, with increases of up to 1,661% in malware and 1,249% in phishing during the 2024 campaigns.
